THE MISSION OF ASRIC

Founded by medical sociologist Dr. Leakhena Nou, the Applied Social Research Institute of Cambodia (ASRIC) is the only not-for-profit organization of its kind devoted to restoring, distributing, and implementing procedural justice for Cambodian American victims and survivors of the Khmer Rouge.  An entirely volunteer-drive enterprise, the organization has grown considerably since it began under the auspices of New York University’s Asian/Pacific/American Institute.  It is now a leading independent organization dedicated to giving voice to Cambodian genocide survivors.

THE WORK OF ASRIC

•   Between 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge regime was responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.7 million Cambodians. Through community dialogue and grassroots activism, ASRIC is dedicated to bringing justice and healing to survivors of the regime and their children.

•   ASRIC is a victim’s association registered in the US and is presently working with the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), commonly referred to as the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

•    Since 2008, ASRIC has worked closely and collaboratively with Cambodian survivors in the diaspora, particularly in the United States and is responsible for filing the largest number of civil parties to the ECCC.

•   In addition to its work with the tribunal, ASRIC hosts community workshops and arts programming for victims and their family members.

•   ASRIC actively partners with community organizations, colleges, and universities across the United States.

CAMBODIAN SURVIVORS NEED JUSTICE!

PETITION FOR ADDITIONAL KHMER ROUGE TRIBUNAL CASES
WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!

From victim to witness: In pursuit of justice and healing

Recognizing that the key to finding justice for survivors of the Khmer Rouge era is to continue the judicial process, the Applied Social Research Institute of Cambodia (ASRIC) has begun a new petition intended to push for the continuance of Case 003 and Case 004. To date, the U.N./Khmer Rouge Tribunal (known officially as the “Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia”) has been active in its prosecution of four Khmer Rouge leaders. Notwithstanding the importance of this work, ASRIC – and its local partners in Cambodia – wants these prosecutions to continue so that survivors have access to justice even after Case 002 comes to a close. This call is issued independently of the ECCC.

ASRIC is therefore asking interested parties to sign the following petition. Please join us in our collective call for justice! The petition is available online:
